MAY 29

DAY 22

St. Mary's Yachting Center
to
Parks Marina

Fun Facts about George Washington
Friday appears to have played a vital role in his life. It was a Friday when he was born. He was commissioned lieutenant colonel in the military on a Friday.  It was on a Friday that he laid the foundation stone for the White House.  He was elected President of the Constitutional convention on a Friday and completed his Presidential term also on a Friday!

.
Today Joe and Judy on Just B'Cause depart St. Mary's for the
ultimate destination of CT.  They will spend their summer
with children and grandchildren at their home up there.
Judy can't wait to babysit!

Bernan, Up tha Crick and Maturity Rules left for Tangiers Island.   A report from the Tangiers Island group will be added once they have internet access so they can send the report to Janet.

Snowdrift made the journey to Bay Creek and rejoined Aquabase.   It's great that some FHYC boaters finally made it there; after 4 tries  (2 tries in 2007 and once on the way north on this trip).   Snowdrift and Aquabase will stay at Bay Creek for two nights.

They called for 1' seas to today... wrong!
More like 2-3'.

Bay Creek Resort is awesome!    It is a marina / golf course community on the Chesapeake Bay.
The homes and condos are very colorful as you can see below.

There are two golf courses here - one designed by Jack Nicklaus and the other by Arnie Palmer.
The Meyers and Plantins played the Nicklaus course today.
The courses are absolutely gorgeous - red roses, lilies, hydrangeas planted in abundance.

Poor George was stuck with carrying all the clubs and bags.
And he didn't even get a tip.

Departing Tides Inn early in the morning of May 22, after a bummy ride across the Bay, we arrived at Tangier Island at 1015 AM. We were greeted by Mr. Parks of Parks Marina in a very warm Tangier welcome. Before we got the boat securely tied to the dock, he said "Let's go take a tour of the island". On Tangier you tour by golf cart. After 45 minutes of seeing the sights, we returned to our boat for a nap then lunch.

We found Tanger Island to be a most interesting and unique place to go. Approximately 500 full time residents live on the Island. Fishing and crabing are the primary work activities. Our two days on Tangier will be long remembered.

We left Tangier early Sunday morning and came back across the Bay, again running in three foot seas, until we were able to see Stingray Point. We went up the river to Deltaville and had a most pleasant afternoon and evening at anchor in Warehouse Cove. Monday the 25th we left Deltaville and headed South returning to the York River and the Riverwalk Landing Marina to join up with our boat owners association where we had a most enjoyable four days with other Camano boat owners, getting update on the Camano manufacturing activities and other boat information. A program had been arranged and there were speakers on the history of Yorktown during the Revolutionary War and the human impact on the fisheries in Chesapeake Bay. We must also add, excellent food at the Riverwalk Restaurant.

Today, Friday, May 29, we left the York River and are now back in Portsmouth at the Tidewater Marina. It was way past time to do laundry, and Pat has already been able to complete that task.

Tomorrow morning, we will go to Coinjock, spend the night, and then Sunday, we will cross the Albemarle Sound and run all the way to the Pungo River anchorage at the south end of the canal (70 nautical miles). Monday morning, we will complete the last leg of our cruise in another 70 nm stretch and arrive back at the Harbour mid afternoon, on June 1.

All the activities of the Northern Cruise and our other ventures have been most enjoyable and will go down in our log book as another good time boating activity.

Report by Nancy
Friday, the Teuberts, Terrills and Bill Davidson/ Donna Getkins traveled from St Mary's Yachting Center to Tangier Isl and stayed at Parks Marina.  We arrived at max current in the cut that goes thru the Island from West to East.  It was a challenge to turn our Mainship BERNAN 90 degrees from the current into a narrow fixed slip with pilings.  We toured the Island and saw the house that the Martins may purchase (per Mr. Parks).  We ate at the Chesapeake House (Family Style).  The menu included crab cakes. clam pancakes, ham  and all the fixings including dessert and ice tea.  We started a Dominoes game and had to break up due to a severe TS with 30 to 50 mph gust and 3 inches of rain over 4 hours.  All boats rocked against the pilings all night long and very little sleep was enjoyed.
